B.] 1923:18, Pl. 23 [Report Fisheries and Marine Biological Survey, Union of South Africa Rep. 3 (art. 5); ref. 522] KwaZulu-Natal coast, 30°09'45"S, 30°58'02"E, South Africa, southwestern Indian Ocean, Pickle station 152, depth 160 fathoms. Lectotype: SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 662. Paralectotypes: (several) whereabouts unknown. Text originally published with genus as above, but separate errata sheet says Leiobatis should read Anacanthobatis on pages 18, 19, and 22, and in caption on Pl. 23. Type information: Winterbottom 1974:9 [ref. 19544]. Lectotype selected by Hulley 1973:133 [ref. 2275]. •Valid as Anacanthobatis marmoratus (von Bonde & Swart 1923) -- (Hulley 1986:128 [ref. 5672], Séret 1986:317 [ref. 6753], McEachran & Dunn 1998:285 [ref. 23312], Cervigón & Alcalá 1999:163 [ref. 24490], Compagno 1999:493 [ref. 25589], Compagno & Ebert 2007:141 [ref. 30471], Weigmann et al. 2014:117 [ref. 33204]). •Valid as Anacanthobatis marmorata (von Bonde & Swart 1923) -- (Weigmann 2016:125 [ref. 34211], Last et al. 2016:29 [ref. 34941], Séret et al. 2016:496 [ref. 35007], Ebert et al. 2021:87 [ref. 38234], Aschliman & Ebert 2022:593 [ref. 39668]). Current status: Valid as Anacanthobatis marmorata (von Bonde & Swart 1923). Anacanthobatidae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: southern Mozambique south to KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa). Record from western Atlantic based on misidentification. Habitat: marine.
