Holotype: UMMZ 250289. Paratypes: ECOCH, UMMZ •Valid as Astyanax bacalarensis Schmitter-Soto 2017 -- (Page et al. 2023:76 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Astyanax bacalarensis Schmitter-Soto 2017. Characidae: Stethaprioninae. Distribution: Southern North America, Middle America: Quintana Roo, Caribbean versant of Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico) south to Sittie River, Toledo district (Belize), west to Mopán (Guatemala). Habitat: freshwater.
