Current status: Valid as Characidium tapuia Zanata, Ramos & Oliveira-Silva 2018. Crenuchidae: Characidiinae. Distribution: South America: upper and middle rio Parnaíba basin (Maranhão and Piauí states, Brazil). Habitat: freshwater.
