Holotype: ZVC-P 12493. Paratypes: MHNM, UFRGS, ZVC. Plus additional non-type material. •Valid as Gymnogeophagus peliochelynion Turcati, Serra-Alanis & Malabarba 2018 -- (Alonso et al. 2019:S1 [ref. 36529], Koerber et al. 2020:8 [ref. 37480], Koerber et al. 2021:9 [ref. 38894], Koerber et al. 2023:9 [ref. 40355], Loureiro et al. 2023:154 [ref. 40506]). Current status: Valid as Gymnogeophagus peliochelynion Turcati, Serra-Alanis & Malabarba 2018. Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: South America: Río Arapey Grande drainage, lower Uruguay River basin (Uruguay). Habitat: freshwater.
