Holotype: KAUM-I 110147. Paratypes: (11) CAS, KAUM-I, KPM, NSMT, USNM. •Valid as Epinephelus insularis Nakamura & Motomura 2021 -- (Nakamura et al. 2023:11 [ref. 40125], Allen & Erdmann 2024:291 [ref. 40796]). Current status: Valid as Epinephelus insularis Nakamura & Motomura 2021. Epinephelidae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: Timor Sea and Indonesia east to Micronesia, north to South China Sea and southern Japan. Habitat: marine.
