Holotype: NMV A.29729-015. Paratypes: CSIRO H6597-008 (ex NMV A.29729-052, 1), USNM 393589 (ex NMV A.29729-052, 1). •Valid as Opistognathus asper Smith-Vaniz 2023 -- (Su & Ho 2024:171 [ref. 41706]). Current status: Valid as Opistognathus asper Smith-Vaniz 2023. Opistognathidae. Distribution: Indian Ocean: northwestern Australia. Habitat: marine.
