Type catalog: Bart & Taylor 1993:53 [ref. 20906]. •Valid as Atherinella ammophila Chernoff & Miller 1984 -- (Chernoff 1986:244 [ref. 5847], Espinosa Pérez et al. 1993:57 [ref. 22290], Dyer in Reis et al. 2003:515 [ref. 27061], Nelson et al. 2004:97 [ref. 27807], Miller 2006:187 [ref. 28615], Scharpf 2007:6 [ref. 30398], Page et al. 2013:99 [ref. 32708], Page et al. 2023:138 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Atherinella ammophila Chernoff & Miller 1984. Atherinopsidae: Menidiinae. Distribution: Southern North America: Río de la Palma basin, Veracruz (Atlantic Slope of Mexico) endemic. Habitat: freshwater.
