R.] 1985:252, Fig. 3 [Records of the Western Australian Museum v. 12 (pt 3); ref. 6244] Ninar River, about 6 kilometers west of Maprik, Papua New Guinea, about 3°37'S, 143°00'E. Holotype: WAM P.27839-007. Paratypes: PNGM (8); WAM P.27839-005 (50), P.27840-005 (1). Type catalog: Hutchins & Smith 1991:8 [ref. 19335], Ferraris 2007:348 [ref. 29155], Moore et al. 2008:8 [ref. 30117]. •Synonym of Neosilurus gjellerupi (Weber 1913), but a valid subspecies -- (Allen 1991:63 [ref. 21090], Allen et al. 1992:299 [ref. 21400]). •Valid as Tandanus coatesi Allen 1985 -- (Burgess 1989:180 [ref. 12860], Allen & Coates 1990:64 [ref. 25561]). •Valid as Neosiluris coatesi (Allen 1985) -- (Ferraris 2007:348 [ref. 29155]). Current status: Valid as Neosilurus coatesi (Allen 1985). Plotosidae. Distribution: Sepik River basin, Papua New Guinea. Habitat: freshwater.
