Holotype: CSIRO B 2200. Paratypes: CSIRO B 2201-02 (1, 6), CA 2142 (1); WAM P.11841-001 (1). Type catalog: Hutchins & Smith 1991:38 [ref. 19335], Moore et al. 2008:42 [ref. 30117]. May use Callionymus or Callurichthys; authors differ. •Synonym of Callionymus margaretae Regan 1905, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Allen & Swainston 1988:132 [ref. 25477], Allen 1997:212 [ref. 23977]). •Valid as Calliurichthys australis (Fricke 1983) -- (Hoese & Bray 2006:1580 [ref. 29000]). •Valid as Callionymus australis Fricke 1983 -- (Hutchins 2001:42 [ref. 25847], Fricke 2002:12 [ref. 26547], Fricke 2017:185 [ref. 35548] in subgenus Margaretichthys). Current status: Valid as Callionymus australis Fricke 1983. Callionymidae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean: northwestern Australia. Habitat: marine.
