P.] 1982:19, Figs. 15-18 [Smithsonian Contributions to Zoology No. 373; ref. 5485] Stream 2 kilometers east of Lake Amucu, Rupununi District, Guyana, about 3°43'N, 59°25'W. Holotype: USNM 226872. Paratypes: AMNH 45094-96 (1, 2, 1); ANSP 146864 (1); BMNH 1926.10.27.208-227 (22), 1981.4.27.1 (1); MCZ 30048 (2), 46021 (1), 57638 (1); MZUSP 15974-75 (2), 15976-77 (2); USNM 226880 (orig. 15, now 14, 3 c&s), 226883-85 (4, 4, 1), 228354 (3). Type catalog: Vari & Howe 1991:18 [ref. 19022], Oyakawa 1996:460 [ref. 23140]. The specific name is an adjective (hidden) and the female form should be cryptica. •Valid as Curimatopsis cryptica Vari 1982 -- (Planquette et al. 1996:118 [ref. 22818] as crypticus, Vari in Reis et al. 2003:54 [ref. 27061] as crypticus, Melo et al. 2016:307 [ref. 34913], Melo & Oliveira 2017:14 [ref. 35403], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:41 [ref. 35633] as crypticus, Koerber et al. 2022:25 [ref. 39235], Vieira et al. 2023:17 [ref. 40759] as aff. cryptica). Current status: Valid as Curimatopsis cryptica Vari 1982. Curimatidae. Distribution: South America: Orinoco and eastern Amazon River basin (Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana and Suriname). Habitat: freshwater.
