Holotype: USNM 221175. Paratypes: USNM 225592 (1), 225593 (2, 1 c&s), 225594 (4). Type catalog: Vari & Howe 1991:25 [ref. 19022]. •Synonym of Hemiodus argenteus Pellegrin 1909 -- (Langeani in Reis et al. 2003:98 [ref. 27061]). •Valid as Hemiodus ocellatus (Vari 1982) -- (Nogueira et al. 2020:[5] [ref. 38050]). Current status: Valid as Hemiodus ocellatus (Vari 1982). Hemiodontidae. Distribution: South America: Guyana, Suriname and Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
