E.] & Lubbock [R.] 1982:44, Figs. 4-5 [Revue française d'Aquariologie Herpétologie v. 9 (no. 2); ref. 8427] Grand Rempart, Mauritius, Mascarenes, southwestern Indian Ocean, depth 50 meters. Holotype: BPBM 22583. Paratypes: BMNH 1981.7.29.2 (1). •Synonym of Ptereleotris grammica Randall & Lubbock 1982 -- (Randall & Hoese 1985:13 [ref. 5197], Fricke 1999:526 [ref. 24106]). •Synonym of Ptereleotris grammica Randall & Lubbock 1982, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Myers 1999:264 [ref. 23965], Randall & Suzuki 2008:100 [ref. 29664]). •Valid as Ptereleotris melanota Randall & Lubbock 1982 -- (Larson 2022:196 [ref. 39971]). Current status: Valid as Ptereleotris melanota Randall & Lubbock 1982. Microdesmidae: Ptereleotrinae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: Mascarenes (La Réunion, Mauritius) and Maldives. Habitat: marine.
