Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:132 [ref. 13621], Smith 1994:28 [ref. 21917]. Originally as pygmaeus, correction to pygmaea is mandatory. •Valid as Nettenchelys pygmaea Smith & Böhlke 1981 -- (Smith 1989:587 [ref. 13285], Smith 1989:708 [ref. 13285], Boschung 1992:37 [ref. 23239], McEachran & Fechhelm 1998:322 [ref. 23897], Karmovskaya 1999:835 [ref. 24844], Schmitter-Soto et al. 2000:150 [ref. 27754], Nelson et al. 2004:65 [ref. 27807], Page et al. 2013:65 [ref. 32708], Smith et al. 2015:117 [ref. 34125], Page et al. 2023:55 [ref. 40505], Fricke et al. 2024:129 [ref. 41622]). Distribution: Western Atlantic: southeastern Florida (U.S.A.) and Bahamas south to Trinidad and Tobago, including Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. IUCN (2025): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
