Holotype: LACM 6903-32. Paratypes: LACM 9748-28 (1), 30415-27 (1), 30996-16 (1), 30997-2 (1), 32749-3 (1); ZMMU P-18173 [ex IOM] (1). Type catalog: Vasil'eva et al. 2001:72-73 [ref. 25714]. Males unknown. •Valid as Gigantactis gargantua Bertelsen, Pietsch & Lavenberg 1981 -- (Amaoka in Amaoka et al. 1983:121, 199 [ref. 8379], Amaoka in Masuda et al. 1984:108 [ref. 6441], Nakabo 2000:469 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:469 [ref. 26001], Love et al. 2005:62 [ref. 37547], Mundy 2005:274 [ref. 28379], Pietsch 2008:389 [ref. 30637], Pietsch 2009:466 [ref. 30766], Love et al. 2021:90 [ref. 39279]). Current status: Valid as Gigantactis gargantua Bertelsen, Pietsch & Lavenberg 1981. Gigantactinidae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific (scattered localities); eastern Pacific: northern Oregon (U.S.A.) south to northern Baja California (Mexico). Habitat: marine.
