Holotype: SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 911. Paratypes: AMG 20272-001 [ex SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 912] (1), SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 912 (2). The species name aporus is a noun in apposition. •Valid as Hetereleotris apora (Hoese & Winterbottom 1979) -- (Hoese 1986:792 [ref. 5670], Hoese 1986:8 [ref. 5996], Gill 1998:94 [ref. 23403], Fricke 1999:514 [ref. 24106], Hoese & Larson 2005:15 [ref. 28571], Fricke et al. 2009:102 [ref. 30213], Shibukawa 2010:90 [ref. 30808], Kovačić et al. 2014:125 [ref. 33446], Kovačić et al. 2019:503 [ref. 36728], Arndt & Fricke 2019:17 [ref. 36883], Parenti 2021:184 [ref. 38603], Larson 2022:105 [ref. 39971]). •Valid as Hetereleotris aporus (Hoese & Winterbottom 1979) -- (Fricke et al. 2024:74 [ref. 41255]). Current status: Valid as Hetereleotris aporus (Hoese & Winterbottom 1979). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), Comoros, Saint Brandon's Shoals (Cargados Carajos) and western Mascarenes (La Réunion, Mauritius) east to Chagos Archipelago (British Indian Ocean Territory). Habitat: marine.
