Also appeared in Ayres 1850 (Mar.):181-182 [ref. 20576], p. 241 above dates to Jan. 1850 based on signature dates. A note about the type specimen being received by BSNH appeared on p. 283 in Proc. Bost. Soc. Nat. Current status: Valid as Polypterus palmas Ayres 1850. Polypteridae. Distribution: West Africa: Upper Guinea region, Senegal to Ivory coast. Habitat: freshwater.
