Amblodon Rafinesque [C. S.] 1819:421 Masc. Catostomus bubalus Rafinesque 1818. Type by subsequent designation. Type designated by Jordan & Evermann 1896:163 [ref. 2443]. Rafinesque (1819:372 [ref. 7308]) equated Amblodon with Aplodinotus based on erroneous description of dentition in Amblodon, but switched bubalus (type of Amblodon) to a new name Ictiobus (1820:55 [ref. 3592]) (see Bailey & Eschmeyer 1988 [ref. 6624]). Amblyodon Agassiz 1846:16 [ref. 64] is an unjustified emendation. Amblodon was suppressed (for priority) in favor of Ictiobus (Opinion 1582). •Synonym of Ictiobus Rafinesque 1820. Current status: Synonym of Ictiobus Rafinesque 1820. Catostomidae: Ictiobinae.

Bubalichthys Agassiz [L.] 1855:77 Masc. Catostomus niger Rafinesque 1820 (= Amblodon niger Rafinesque 1819). Type by subsequent designation. Type sometimes given as Carpiodes urus Agassiz 1854, but niger was designated by Bleeker 1863:23 [ref. 4859] and Bleeker 1863:191 [ref. 397]. See Hubbs 1930:11 [ref. 5590] for comments on species. Bubalichtys Scudder 1882:45 [ref. 6 462] is a misspelling. •Synonym of Ictiobus Rafinesque 1820 -- (Gilbert 1998:20 [ref. 23395]). Current status: Synonym of Ictiobus Rafinesque 1820. [ref. 3592]. •Valid as Carpiodes Rafinesque 1820 -- (Jenkins & Burkhead 1994:469 [ref. 21581], Gilbert 1998:20 [ref. 23395], Minckley & Marsh 2009:211 [ref. 31114]). Type designated by Agassiz 1854:354 [ref. 69]. Also in Rafinesque 1820:55, 89 (Dec.) [ref. 3592] as Ictiorus. Name placed on Official List (Opinion 1582), conserving over Amblodon Rafinesque 1819 which was placed on Official Index. •Valid as Ictiobus Rafinesque 1820 -- (Bailey & Eschmeyer 1988 [ref. 6624], Gilbert 1998:20 [ref. 23395], Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:102 [ref. 28183], Scharpf 2006:10 [ref. 30386], Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:298 [ref. 29996], Minckley & Marsh 2009:214 [ref. 31114]). Misspelled Macrostomatobus by Hubbs 1926:19 [ref. 11677]. •Synonym of Ictiobus Rafinesque 1820 -- (Gilbert 1998:21 [ref. 23395]). Current status: Synonym of Ictiobus Rafinesque 1820. Genus restricted by Günther 1868:22-23 [ref. 1990] but type not technically designated; type apparently first designated by Desmarest 1856:295 [ref. 17401] -- see Whitley 1939:225 [ref. 25866] but Whitley has incorrect date for Desmarest; also by Jordan & Gilbert 1877:89 [ref. 4907]. •Synonym of Carpiodes Rafinesque 1820 -- (Gilbert 1998:21 [ref. 23395]).
