Argyrolepis Agassiz 1846:33 [ref. 64] is an unjustified emendation. •Synonym of Leiognathus Lacepède 1802 -- (Kottelat 2013:339 [ref. 32989]). Current status: Synonym of Leiognathus Lacepède 1802. Leiognathidae: Leiognathinae.

Aurigequula (subgenus of Leiognathus) Fowler [H. W.] 1918:17 Fem. Clupea fasciata Lacepède 1803. Type by original designation (also monotypic). •Synonym of Leiognathus Lacepède 1802 -- (James 1978:141 [ref. 5317], Jones 1985:571 [ref. 21842]). •Placed in Equula by Chakrabarty & Sparks 2008:5 [ref. 29788], corrected by Chakrabarty et al. 2009:149 [ref. 30295]. •Valid as Aurigequula Fowler 1918 -- (Chakrabarty et al. 2008:149 [ref. 32414], Chakrabarty et al. 2009:143 [ref. 30295], Chakrabarty et al. 2010:109 [ref. 31090], Abraham et al. 2011:13 [ref. 31311], Kottelat 2013:339 [ref. 32989], Sparks & Chakrabarty 2015:181 [ref. 33740], Fricke et al. 2018:189 [ref. 35805], Golani & Fricke 2018:87 [ref. 36273], Fricke et al. 2019:149 [ref. 36673]). Deveximentum Fowler [H. W.] 1904:517 Neut. Zeus insidiator Bloch 1787. Type by original designation (also monotypic). Secutor is a replacement name for Equula, which is a synonym of Leiognathus according to Kottelat 2013:337 [ref. 32989]. •Synonym of Secutor Gistel 1848 -- (James 1978:165 [ref. 5317], Jones 1985:605 [ref. 21842], Mochizuki & Hayashi 1989:84 [ref. 20157]). •Valid as Deveximentum Fowler 1904 -- (Kottelat 2013:337 [ref. 32989], Sparks & Chakrabarty 2015:186 [ref. 33740], Motomura et al. 2017:121 [ref. 35490], Alavi-Yeganeh et al. 2021:1 [ref. 38052]). Equula Cuvier [G.] 1815:462 Fem. Centrogaster equula of Gmelin 1788 (= Scomber equula Forsskål 1775). Type by absolute tautonymy. Cuvier stated (p. 463), "...je nommerai equula"; it was Cuvier's style in this article to begin generic names with a lower case letter. Chakrabaarty & Sparks 2008:5 [ref. 29788] treated a valid Equula but they had the wrong type-species, and the genus Equula is an objective synonym of Leiognathus [see also remarks under Aurigequula Fowler 1918]. •Valid as Equula Cuvier 1815 -- (Chakrabarty & Sparks 2008: 5 [ref. 29788] but with the wrong type species). •Synonym of Leiognathus Lacepède 1802 -- (Tortonese 1973:390 [ref. 7192], James 1978:141 [ref. 5317], Jones 1985:571 [ref. 21842], Kottelat 2013:339 [ref. 32989]). The tribes Gazzini, Eubleekerini and Nuchequulini in the same work [ref. 33778] apparently also need the addition of "new" associated with them -- suggestion of R. van der Laan, Apr. 2014.
