Genera in the family or subfamily Percidae: [ 115 ] records

Acerina Güldenstädt [J. A. von] 1775:455 Fem. Acerina babir Güldenstädt 1775 (= Perca cernua Linnaeus 1758). Type by monotypy. Jordan 1917:32 [ref. 2407] lists type as kabir Güldenstädt = cernua Linnaeus. Collette 1963:617 [ref. 6459] indicated that he could find no kabir mentioned by Güldenstädt and indicated he merely described Perca acerina and compared it with Perca cernua. The title apparently does not indicate that Güldenstädt was describing a genus and on p. 456 he mentions babir russice salutatur acerina. Cernua autem, ... Kottelat & Freyhof 2009:84 [ref. 30320] treat babir as a vernacular name, and they suggest that Acerina Güldenstädt 1775 is an unavailable generic name. Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:205 treat Acerina as not a generic name (and date it to 1774). In any event and if needed, steps should be taken to suppress Acerina in favor of the well known genus Gymnocephalus. •In the synonymy of Gymnocephalus Bloch 1793. Nomen Nudum. Current status: Synonym of Gymnocephalus Bloch 1793. Percidae: Percinae.
