Bleeker designated the type as "Sorubim jandia Spix"; this corresponds to Sorubim spatula Spix & Agassiz in text (p. 26) (See Whitehead & Myers 1971 [ref. 6584]; also Lundberg et al. 1989:333 [ref. 12544]).
