Type catalog: Bertin 1940:272 [ref. 293]. Bertin and authors regard MNHN 3608 as holotype; a Rüppell specimen is also mentioned so MNHN was designated lectotype by Eschmeyer 1998:39 [ref. 23416]. •Synonym of Heterotis niloticus (Cuvier 1829) -- (Daget 1984:57 [ref. 6170]). Current status: Synonym of Heterotis niloticus (Cuvier 1829). Arapaimidae. Habitat: freshwater.

Apparently predated by Cuvier 1829; date for Rüppell possibly after 1829. 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Heterotis niloticus (Cuvier 1829). Arapaimidae. Habitat: freshwater.
