Holotype: ZMUC P31334. Paratypes: (24) SIO 69-20 (2), 70-333 (1). Originally in the family Chlopsidae. Placement uncertain -- (Lavenberg 1988:253 [ref. 6617]). López et al. 2007:959 [ref. 29442] place in the Colocongridae based on DNA evidence. •Valid as Thalassenchelys foliaceus Castle & Raju 1975 -- (Shimokawa et al. 1995:89 [ref. 22702], Fricke et al. 2011:349 [ref. 31242]). •Synonym of Congriscus maldivensis (Norman 1939) -- (Kurogi et al. 2015:[6] 244 [ref. 34038], Chow et al. 2016:2204 [ref. 34808]). Current status: Synonym of Congriscus maldivensis (Norman 1939). Congridae: Congrinae. Habitat: marine.

Paratypes: BMNH 1939.5.24.610-612 (2 of 3). •Valid as Congriscus maldivensis (Norman 1939) -- (Adam et al. 1998:8 [ref. 23610], Karmovskaya 2004:S9 [ref. 28053], Kurogi et al. 2015:[6] 244 [ref. 34038], Chow et al. 2016:2209 [ref. 34808], Fricke et al. 2018:50 [ref. 35805], Yanagimoto et al. 2020:[2] [ref. 37970], Mochizuki et al. 2022:147 [ref. 39930]). Current status: Valid as Congriscus maldivensis (Norman 1939). Congridae: Congrinae. Distribution: Indo-Werst Pacific: Madagascar and Maldives east to northern Philippines; leptocephali found north to southern Japan. Habitat: marine.

Holotype: MNHN 2000-0924. Paratypes: MNHN 2002-3732 (3). •Valid as Congriscus marquesaensis Karmovskaya 2004 -- (Kurogi et al. 2015:[4] 242 [ref. 34038]). Current status: Valid as Congriscus marquesaensis Karmovskaya 2004. Congridae: Congrinae. Distribution: South Pacific: Marquesas Islands. Habitat: marine.

Syntypes: BMNH 1879.5.14.439 (3), NMI block reg. no. 114.1899 (1). Type catalog: Wheeler & O'Riordan 1969:94 [ref. 20752]. Also described as new in Günther 1880:73 [ref. 2011].
