Lectotype established (as figured specimen) in caption to Pl. 218, p. 3278 in Jordan & Evermann 1900 [ref. 2446] if figured specimen is identifiable and matches the sole surviving specimen in USNM 25118. •Valid as Diapterus olisthostomus (Goode & Bean 1882) -- (Robins & Ray 1986:174 [ref. 23100]). •Synonym of Diapterus auratus Ranzani 1842 -- (Deckert & Greenfield 1987:185 [ref. 6778], Cervigón 1993:164 [ref. 24474], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:321 [ref. 24550], Marín 2000:74 [ref. 26252], Gilmore & Greenfield 2003:1510 [ref. 27093]).
