Sketch of holotype appeared in Mead 1972:9 [ref. 6976]. Species epithet subsequently corrected to brevoorti by Poey 1861:356 [ref. 3499]; the original spelling brevorti is to be retained according to ICZN Art. 33.3. •Valid as Eumegistus brevorti (Poey 1860) -- (Mead 1972:9 [ref. 6976], Gomes 1990:760 [ref. 18692], Thompson & Russell 1996:195 [ref. 23156], Schmitter-Soto et al. 2000:160 [ref. 27754], Alvarez-León 2002:229 [ref. 26373] as Eumegistius, Thompson 2003:1472 [ref. 27088], Bunkley-Williams & Williams 2004:111 [ref. 27795], Moteki 2005:202 [ref. 28308], Carvalho-Filho et al. 2009:5 [ref. 30553], Haedrich in Carpenter & De Angelis 2016:2518 [ref. 34618], Robertson et al. 2022:86 [ref. 39353], Carvalho-Filho 2023:152 [ref. 40480] as brevoorti). Current status: Valid as Eumegistus brevorti (Poey 1860). Bramidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Florida (U.S.A.) south to Brazil, including Caribbean Sea; also apparently West Africa (juveniles). saussurii, Brama Lunel [G.] 1866:185, Pl. 2 [Mémoires de la Société de Physique et d'Histoire Naturelle de Genève v. 18 (pt 2); ref. 14183] Cuba. Lectotype: MHNG 940.85. Paralectotypes: MHNG (1, dry). Type catalog: Mahnert 1976:473 [ref. 21535] with emendation to saussurei, Weber 1998:6 [ref. 32707] as holotype. Lectotype selected by Mead 1972:9 [ref. 6976]. •Synonym of Eumegistus brevorti (Poey 1860) -- (Mead 1972:15 [ref. 6976], Gomes 1990:760 [ref. 18692]). Current status: Synonym of Eumegistus brevorti (Poey 1860). Bramidae. Habitat: marine.
