Syntypes: MNHN 0000-6523 (2). Type catalog: Blanc & Hureau 1968:6 [ref. 20738]. •Valid as Gymnapistes marmoratus (Cuvier 1829) -- (Paxton et al. 1989:442 [ref. 12442], Kuiter 1993:117 [ref. 23929], Kuiter 1997:84 [ref. 25488], Mandrytsa 2001:278 [ref. 25636], Hutchins 2001:27 [ref. 25847], Allen et al. 2006:899 [ref. 29078], Johnson & Motomura 2008:501 [ref. 30648]). Current status: Valid as Gymnapistes marmoratus (Cuvier 1829). Synanceiidae: Tetraroginae. Distribution: Southern Australia: New South Wales to Western Australia. Habitat: brackish, marine.

tasmanensis, Apistes Gray [J. E.] 1838:111 [Annals of Natural History, or Magazine of Zoology, Botany, and Geology v. 1 (no. 2); ref. 1884] Tasmania, Australia. whereabouts unknown. Not at BMNH. •Synonym of Gymnapistes marmoratus (Cuvier 1829) -- (Paxton et al. 1989:442 [ref. 12442], Allen et al. 2006:899 [ref. 29078]). Current status: Synonym of Gymnapistes marmoratus (Cuvier 1829). Synanceiidae: Tetraroginae. Habitat: brackish, marine.
