Holotype: CSIRO A 4252. Paratypes: 23 specimens at AMS, CSIRO, NMV. Species epithet is an adjective, ("southern") therefore mandatory correction to meridiana when in feminine genus Maxillicosta. •Valid as Maxillicosta meridianus Motomura, Last & Gomon 2006 -- (Johnson & Motomura 2008:490 [ref. 30648]). •Valid as Maxillicosta meridiana Motomura, Last & Gomon 2006. Current status: Valid as Maxillicosta meridiana Motomura, Last & Gomon 2006. Neosebastidae. Distribution: Southeastern Indian Ocean, southwestern Pacific: Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia (Australia). Habitat: marine.
