Type catalog: Smith-Vaniz et al. 1979:40 [ref. 12247]. Apparently described independently of Scomber saliens Bloch 1793, but based on the same source. Illustrated on Pl. 19 (fig. 2) of v. 2, 1800 [ref. 2709], but with vernacular name. Based on 'Pelamis minima, vulgo sauteur' in manuscript by Plumier (Charles Plumier, 1646-1704, French explorer and botanist).
