Species is described in more detail in Volz 1903:366 [ref. 21451]. •Valid as Brachyamblyopus intermedius (Volz 1903) -- (Kottelat et al. 1993:155 [ref. 23448], Proudlove 2006:269 [ref. 28992], Kottelat 2013:433 [ref. 32989]). •Valid as Trypauchenopsis intermedia Volz 1903 -- (Murdy 2011:113 [ref. 31729], Shibukawa & Murdy 2012:528 [ref. 32199], Motomura et al. 2017:200 [ref. 35490], Parenti 2021:64 [ref. 38603], Taki et al. 2021:483 [ref. 39830], Koreeda et al. 2022:32 [ref. 39102], Larson 2022:25 [ref. 39965], Maeda et al. 2022:[4] [ref. 39740], Yamashita et al. 2022:2 [ref. 39323], Okamura et al. 2023:25 [ref. 40943]). Current status: Valid as Trypauchenopsis intermedia Volz 1903. Gobiidae: Amblyopinae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) and Mozambique; Myanmar; Indonesia east to Guam, north to Chiba Prefecture (Japan). Habitat: freshwater, brackish.

B.] 1943:70, Fig. 2 [Transactions of the Royal Society of South Africa v. 30 (pt 1); ref. 4071] St. Lucia Estuary, Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, southwestern Indian Ocean. Holotype: SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 177 [ex AMG]. Paratypes: SAIAB [formerly RUSI] (1) not researched. •Valid as Taenioides jacksoni Smith 1943 -- (Hoese 1986:805 [ref. 5670], Maugé 1986:386 [ref. 6218]). •Synonym of Trypauchenopsis intermedia Volz 1903 -- (Shibukawa & Murdy 2012:530 [ref. 32199], Parenti 2021:64 [ref. 38603]). Current status: Synonym of Trypauchenopsis intermedia Volz 1903. Gobiidae: Amblyopinae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.

Holotype: AMNH 20445. Paratypes: AMNH 20446 (14), 10447 (orig. 17, now 8), USNM 206432 [ex AMNH 20447] (6). •Valid as Taenioides limicola Smith 1964 -- (Akihito in Masuda et al. 1984:288 [ref. 6441], Kawanabe & Mizuno 1989:645 [ref. 25598], Nakabo 2000:1157 [ref. 25182], Sakai et al. 2001:120 [ref. 25693], Nakabo 2002:1157 [ref. 26193], Myers & Donaldson 2003:641 [ref. 27495], Hoese & Larson 2006:1686 [ref. 29097], Shao et al. 2008:262 [ref. 29952]). •Synonym of Trypauchenopsis intermedia Volz 1903 -- (Shibukawa & Murdy 2012:530 [ref. 32199], Parenti 2021:64 [ref. 38603]). •Valid as Trypauchenopsis limicola (Smith 1964) -- (Maeda et al. 2022:[3] [ref. 39740], Furuhashi et al. 2023:30 [ref. 40140]). Current status: Valid as Trypauchenopsis limicola (Smith 1964). Gobiidae: Amblyopinae. Distribution: Western Pacific: Mariana Islands to Ryukyu Islands and Osumi Islands (southern Japan). Habitat: marine.
