mauritanicus, Zeus faber natio Desbrosses [P.] 1937:379, Fig. 3 [Revue des Travaux de l'Institut des Pêches Maritimes v. 10 (no. 3); ref. 17136] Morocco; Senegal; Guinea. Syntypes: (orig. 295) MNHN 1937-0256 (1), 20°21'N, 17°50'W, cap Blanc. Type catalog: Bauchot 1970:27 [ref. 20740]. Described as a natio and as a race, although cited throughout text as Zeus faber mauritanicus. Treated as a subspecies by later authors. •Synonym of Zeus faber Linnaeus 1758 -- (Heemstra 1980:8 [ref. 14195], Karrer & Post 1990:633 [ref. 17313]). Current status: Synonym of Zeus faber Linnaeus 1758. Zeidae. Habitat: brackish, marine.

pungio, Zeus Cuvier [G.] 1829:211 [Le Règne Animal (Edition 2) v. 2; ref. 995] Corsica, France, western Mediterranean Sea. Holotype: MNHN A-6860. Type catalog: Bauchot 1970:28 [ref. 20740] dated to 1835. Available with brief description and reference to "Rondel., 328."
