Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Classe v. 11 [1853]; ref. 18262] Holotype (unique): whereabouts unknown. Type catalog: Ferraris 2007:167 [ref. 29155]. On p. 10 of separate. Based only on a drawing of the swimbladder. Sabaj & Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:458 [ref. 27061] have two syntypes but name is based on the drawing of one swimbladder. Later treated in Kner 1855:126-127 as Doras cataphractus. The specific name is an indeclinable noun. •Species inquirenda in genus Acanthodoras -- (Sabaj & Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:458 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:168 [ref. 29155]). •Valid as Acanthodoras polygramma (Kner 1853) -- (Sabaj & Mariangeles 2021:30 [ref. 38877] as polygrammus). Current status: Valid as Acanthodoras polygramma (Kner 1853). Doradidae: Acanthodoradinae. Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin. Habitat: freshwater.
