No types known. •Questionably a senior synonym of Acanthocobitis zonalternans (Blyth 1860) -- (Kottelat 2012:76 [ref. 32367], Kottelat 2013:199 [ref. 32989]). •Synonym of Paracanthocobitis botia (Hamilton 1822) -- (Singer et al. 2017:105 [ref. 35606]). •Valid as Paracanthocobitis chlorosoma (McClelland 1839) -- (Bleher 2018:197 [ref. 36647]). Current status: Synonym of Paracanthocobitis botia (Hamilton 1822). Nemacheilidae. Habitat: freshwater.

phuketensis, Noemacheilus Klausewitz [W.] 1957:195, Fig. 1; Pl. 18 (fig. 1) [Senckenbergiana Biologica v. 38 (nos 3/4); ref. 12152] Phuket Island, off the west coast of the south peninsula, Thailand. Holotype: SMF 3966. Paratypes: SMF 3967 (1), 4244 (1). Genus is correctly Nemacheilus. •Synonym of Acanthocobitis zonalternans (Blyth 1860) -- (Kottelat 1990:36 [ref. 14137], Bănărescu & Nalbant 1995:433 [ref. 23187] with reservation, Kottelat 2012:51 [ref. 31992], Kottelat 2012:76 [ref. 32367] with question, Kottelat 2013:199 [ref. 32989]). •Synonym of Paracanthocobitis zonalternans (Blyth 1860) -- (Singer & Page 2015:397 [ref. 33823]). •Valid as Paracanthocobitis phuketensis (Klausewitz 1957) -- (Singer et al. 2017:94 [ref. 35606], Dvořák et al. 2022:151 [ref. 39205]). Current status: Valid as Paracanthocobitis phuketensis (Klausewitz 1957). Nemacheilidae. Distribution: Southeast Asia: Panang Tak drainage, Peninsular Thailand, Phuket Island and river drainages in northern Peninsular Malaysia. Habitat: freshwater.

zonalternans, Cobitis Blyth [E.] 1860:172 [Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal v. 29 (no. 2); ref. 477] Huai Mae Charno, 4 kilometers south of Amphoe Mae Ramat on road 1085, 16°58'N, 98°34'E (16.967N, 98.567E), Tak Province, Salween basin, Thailand. Neotype: ZSM 27468 [ex ZRC 38458, ex CMK 4915]. Type catalog: Neumann 2011:239 [ref. 31652]. Two syntypes at ZSI from Tenasserim provinces lost; neotype designated by Kottelat 1990:42 [ref. 14137]. Reasons for loss of ZSI type specimens during WWII see Chopra 1947:349-350 [ref. 33077]. •Valid as Nemacheilus zonalternans (Blyth 1860) -- (Menon 1987:147 [ref. 14149] as Noemacheilus, Ataur Rahman 1989:146 [ref. 24860] as Nemachilus, Talwar & Jhingran 1991:508 [ref. 20764], Menon 1999:182 [ref. 24904] as Noemacheilus, Karmakar 2000:31 [ref. 25662] as Noemacheilus). •Valid as Acanthocobitis zonalternans (Blyth 1860) -- (Kottelat 1990:35 [ref. 14137], Bănărescu & Nalbant 1995:433 [ref. 23187], Doi 1997:16 [ref. 22832], Vishwanath & Laisram 2001:200 [ref. 25886], Ataur Rahman 2003:164 [ref. 31338], Kottelat 2012:51 [ref. 31992], Kottelat 2012:76 [ref. 32367], Kottelat 2013:199 [ref. 32989], Khynrian & Sen 2014:10 [ref. 33853]). •Valid as Acanthocobitis zonalternans (Day 1872), but a valid subgenus Paracanthocobitis -- (Grant 2008:18 [ref. 33826]). •Valid as Paracanthocobitis zonalternans (Blyth 1860) -- (Singer & Page 2015:396 [ref. 33823], Singer et al. 2017:91 [ref. 35606], Bleher 2018:196 [ref. 36647], Arunkumar & Moyon 2019:107 [ref. 36799]). Current status: Valid as Paracanthocobitis zonalternans (Blyth 1860). Nemacheilidae. Distribution: Salween River drainage, Thailand and Myanmar, and Brahmaputra basin, India and Bangladesh. Habitat: freshwater.
