Atopichthys Garman [S.] 1899:326 [Memoirs of the Museum of Comparative Zoology v. 24; ref. 1540] Masc. Atopichthys esunculus Garman 1899. Type by subsequent designation. Spelled Atopichthyes on p. 325 and once in list of figures. Regarded as an available genus-group name as a collective group. Type designated by Jordan 1920:486 [ref. 4905]. Used in the sense of a genus by Garman as a temporary catchall for unplaced larval eels, some now reassigned (see Raju 1985 [ref. 5287]). •Synonym of Albula Scopoli 1777 -- (Whitehead 1986:216 [ref. 5733], Kottelat 2013:35 [ref. 32989]). •See Mundy 2005:139 [ref. 28379]. Glossodus Agassiz [L.] in Spix & Agassiz 1829:48 [Selecta genera et species piscium quos in itinere per Brasiliam; ref. 13] Masc. Glossodus forskalii Spix & Agassiz 1829 (= Argentina glossodonta Forsskål 1775). Type by monotypy. Based on Glossodonta Cuvier 1815, not available. The species Glossodus forskalii is an unneeded substitute for A. glossodonta.
