Not available from Hoedeman 1951--no fixation of type species after 1930 (Art. 13.3). Earliest available publication apparently by Fowler 1975:73 [ref. 9331], where citation to Hoedeman is given and a type (as a subspecies) is designated. Author would be Fowler and date 1975. •Treated as a synonym of Alestes Müller & Troschel 1844 -- (Paugy 1984:140 [ref. 6183]). Current status: Synonym of Alestes Müller & Troschel 1844. Alestidae.

Alestogrammus (subgenus of Phenacogrammus) Hoedeman [J. J.] 1956:559 [ref. 6184] Masc. Alestes abeli Fowler 1936. Type by original designation. Appeared first in Hoedeman 1951:7 [ref. 2178] as a subgenus of Alestopetersius but not available; three included species but no type established (Art. 13.3). Furthermore, a line was missing in the key on p. 7. From BB. on, all subgenera were intended as belonging to the genus Phenacogrammus.
