Name published in synonymy of Blennius saliens, but available because of later use (possibly by Bleeker 1869:234 [ref. 426], Jordan & Seale 1906:421 [ref. 2497] and others (Art. 11.6)). Name first published in synonymy; genus and species quoted from Commerson manuscript, but made available back to this date by later use (Art. 11.6) of Schultz and Chapman in Schultz et al. 1960:366 [ref. 3972]. If Alticus Lacepède is regarded as unavailable, then the genus Alticus would be cited as Valenciennes 1836.
