Anableps Bloch [M. E.] (ex Gronow) 1794:7 [Naturgeschichte der ausländischen Fische v. 8; ref. 463] Fem. Anableps tetrophthalmus Bloch 1794 (= Cobitis anableps Linnaeus 1758). Type by monotypy. Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Anableps Scopoli 1777 in fishes. •Objective synonym and junior homonym of Anableps Scopoli 1777 -- (Ghedotti in Reis et al. 2003:583 [ref. 27061], Huber 2019:9 [ref. 36941]). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Anableps Scopoli 1777. Anablepidae: Anablepinae.

Peltatetraops (subgenus of Anableps) Fowler [H. W.] 1931:396 [Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia v. 83; ref. 1410] Masc. Anableps microlepis Müller & Troschel 1844.
