H.] 1882:344 [Proceedings of the United States National Museum v. 4 (no. 237); ref. 2470] Mazatlán harbor, Sinaloa, western Mexico. Syntypes: USNM 28119 (8, not found in 1980). Based on juvenile specimens that cannot be assigned to genus or species level with certainty as the type series is apparently lost. Following Jordan & Evermann 1896:441 [ref. 2443], the name is treated as a noun in apposition and does not change its ending, from meióo, to reduce, and archós, anus, named for its very small anal fin. •Valid as Anchoviella miarchus (Jordan & Gilbert 1882) -- (Villa 1982:96 [ref. 36708], McCosker & Rosenblatt 2010:189 [ref. 30957]). •Status uncertain -- (Nelson 1983:49 [ref. 5189], Whitehead et al. 1988:324 [ref. 5725], Grove & Lavenberg 1997:192 [ref. 24023], Loeb 2015:143 [ref. 36196]).
