Type species designated by Lazara 1995:502 [ref. 22411] [incorrectly cited by us in 1998; type designated by Lazara is as above]. Fowler credits this spelling first to Goldfuss 1826. Comments about Aphanius vs. Lebias in Wildekamp et al. 1999:25 [ref. 26561]. Supressed for the purposes of the Principle of Priority but not the Principle of Homonymy and placed on the Official Index of Rejected and Invalid Generic Names in Zoology (Opinion 2057).
