Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:21 [ref. 12291]. Original genus should have been Aphyocharax. Species was also described as new in Ulrey 1895:293 [ref. 12371]. •Valid as Hyphessobrycon heteresthes (Ulrey 1894) -- (Lima & Malabarba in Reis et al. 2003:137 [ref. 27061], Dagosta et al. 2014:366 [ref. 33382]). •Species inquirenda -- (Lima et al. 2024:205 [ref. 40817]). Nomen Dubium. Characidae: Stethaprioninae. Distribution: Still known only from the type locality, Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
