Paratypes: BSMP 5696 (1) and 5698 (1) (apparently destroyed). •Valid as Apogon griffini (Seale 1910) -- (Allen 1997:108 [ref. 23977], Allen 1999:2606 [ref. 24812], Allen in Randall & Lim 2000:613 [ref. 25122], Allen 2000:100 [ref. 25868], Allen & Randall 2002:122 [ref. 26188]). •Valid as Ostorhinchus griffini (Seale 1910) -- (Allen & Erdmann 2012:393 [ref. 31980], Mabuchi et al. 2014:200 [ref. 33426] as junior to urostigmus, Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:126 [ref. 36965]). Current status: Valid as Ostorhinchus griffini (Seale 1910). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Western Pacific: Indonesia, Borneo and Philippines. Habitat: marine.

sabahensis, Apogon Allen [G. R.] & Kuiter [R. H.] 1994:19, Fig. 1 [Revue française d'Aquariologie Herpétologie v. 21 (no. 1/2); ref. 21601] Police Bay on northern side of Gaya Island, Tunku Abdul Rahman Islands, Sabah, Borneo, West Malaysia, about 6°02'N, 116°01'E, depth 2-5 meters. Holotype: WAM P.30399-012. Paratypes: USNM 328637 (1), WAM P.30399-001 (4). Type catalog: Moore et al. 2008:25 [ref. 30117]. •Synonym of Apogon griffini (Seale 1910) -- (G. Allen and T. Fraser, pers. comm. 5/2008). Current status: Synonym of Apogon griffini (Seale 1910). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Habitat: marine.
