Subjectively invalid; secondarily preoccupied by Apogon melas Bleeker 1848 in Amia; replaced by Apogonichthys melanopterus Fowler & Bean 1930. •Synonym of Apogon melanopterus (Fowler & Bean 1930) -- (T. Fraser, pers. comm. 9/2000). •Valid as Apogon melas (Fowler 1918) -- (Allen & Adrim 2003:35 [ref. 26830]). 2°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Apogon melanopterus (Fowler & Bean 1930).
