Based on Amia macropterus of Bleeker 1874 (in part) and other references and specimens. Considered a separate description and not a replacement name. Lectotype: RMNH 33905. Paralectotypes: BMNH (1, lost) Ambon. Based on a specimen and on Apogon macropterus of Bleeker 1851:168. Abth.); ref. 4247] Kagoshima, Japan. Holotype (unique): NMW 34996. Name mentioned in passing in synonymy of Apogon (Archamia) macropterus Cuvier 1828. Apparently made available back to Döderlein 1883 by use as a valid species by Jordan & Snyder 1901:907. •Synonym of Archamia fucata (Cantor 1849) -- (Gon & Randall 2003:28 [ref. 27133]). •Valid as Taeniamia kagoshimanus (Döderlein 1883) -- (Mabuchi et al. 2014:198 [ref. 33426], Mabuchi et al. 2015:42 [ref. 34429]). •Valid as Taeniamia kagoshimana (Döderlein 1883) -- (Fraser 2013:3 [ref. 32894], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:47 [ref. 36965]). Current status: Valid as Taeniamia kagoshimana (Döderlein 1883). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Northwestern Pacific: Japan. Habitat: marine.

Paralectotypes: RMNH 51 (1). Type catalog: Bauchot & Desoutter 1987:61 [ref. 12478]. Perhaps based on one specimen as concluded by Eschmeyer et al. 1998, but it can't be determined which one of 2 available specimens might be the type.
