meleagris, Tetrodon Anonymous in Lacepède (ex Commerson) 1798:684 [Allgemeine Literatur-Zeitung 1798 (pt. 3) (no. 288) (for 25 Sept. 1798); ref. 24107] Mers de l'Asie [Indo-West Pacific]. No types known. Usually dated to Lacepède 1798:505 [ref. 2708], but he only used a vernacular name "méléagris" in italics under vernacular genus 'Tétrodon', as 'Le tétrodon méléagris'; Lacepède did not use italics for scientific names. Correctly dated to Anonymous [ex Commerson, Lacepède] 1798:684 [ref. 24107], which is the first available, Latinized version. Sometimes dated to Bloch & Schneider 1801. IUCN (2014): Least concern. Habitat: marine.
