Lectotype: BMNH 1886.11.18.69 [ex OM]. Type catalog: Russell 1996:223-224 [ref. 22562] with a holotype but two localities were given so that additional material may have contributed to Hutton's understanding of this species; the described specimen was designated lectotype by Eschmeyer 1998:139 •Valid as Auchenoceros punctatus (Hutton 1873) -- (Paulin 1983:103 [ref. 5459], Paulin et al. 1989:119 [ref. 24556], Cohen in Cohen et al. 1990:355 [ref. 18936], Struthers et al. 2015:844 [ref. 34267]). Current status: Valid as Auchenoceros punctatus (Hutton 1873). Moridae. Distribution: New Zealand. Habitat: marine.
