Bangana (subgenus of Cyprinus) Hamilton [F.] 1822:277, 385 [An account of the fishes found in the river Ganges; ref. 2031] Fem. Cyprinus dero Hamilton 1822. Type by subsequent designation. Treated as feminine, Art. 30.2.4. Type designated by Jordan 1917:155 [ref. 2407]. The genera Bangana and Sinilabeo are thought by some workers to be the same, with many Asia species; both names were in current use, and the problem needs study. Type by original designation (also monotypic and by absolute tautonymy). Treated as feminine, Art. 30.2.4.
