Apparently appeared first in key, without species. One valid species included by Bleeker 1859:147 [ref. 371] and 1860:115, 208 [ref. 380]. Type by subsequent monotypy. •Valid as Barbichthys Bleeker 1860 -- (Kottelat 1985:260 [ref. 11441], Kottelat 1989:6 [ref. 13605], Roberts 1989:29 [ref. 6439], Doi 1997:2 [ref. 22832], Yang et al. 2012:362 [ref. 33458] in Labeoini, Kottelat 2013:76 [ref. 32989] dated 1859). Current status: Valid as Barbichthys Bleeker 1860. Cyprinidae: Labeoninae.
