Lectotype established (as figured specimen) in caption to Pl. 63, p. 3245, for Bascanichthys scuticaris in Jordan & Evermann 1900 [ref. 2446] but see Smith 1994:36 [ref. 21917] who accepts the designation of Ginsburg 1951:479 [ref. 1804]. •Valid as Sphagebranchus teres Goode & Bean 1882 -- (McCosker 1977:71 [ref. 6836]). •Synonym of Bascanichthys scuticaris (Goode & Bean 1880) -- (McCosker et al. 1989:336 [ref. 13288]). Current status: Synonym of Bascanichthys scuticaris (Goode & Bean 1880). Ophichthidae: Ophichthinae. Habitat: marine.
