Type designated by Swain 1882:277 [ref. 5966] (for Brachyrus); Brachirus Swainson 1838 regarded as an inadvertent spelling error for Brachyrus Swainson 1838: 264 [ref. 4302] by Eschmeyer & Randall 1975:275 [ref. 6389]; name changed to Dendrochirus on p. 180. See account of Dendrochirus. Kottelat 1998:120 [ref. 23436] points out that Jordan 1919:201 [ref. 2410] serves as first revisor, selecting Brachyrus over Brachirus in Scorpaenidae, and Kottelat uses Brachirus Swainson 1839 as the available genus of soles. See also Desoutter et al. 2001:325 [ref. 25559]. •In the synonymy of Dendrochirus Swainson 1839 -- (Mandrytsa 2001:253 [ref. 25636]). Current status: Synonym of Dendrochirus Swainson 1839.
