Syntypes: NMW 43192 (1), 43196 (1); RMNH 9563 (1), 10797 (1); ZMB 2001 (1), 4333 (1). Type catalog: Whitehead & Talwar 1976:158 [ref. 23762]. mcclellandi, Bregmaceros Thompson [W.] (ex Cantor) 1840:184, Figured [Magazine of Natural History [E. Charlesworth, ed.] (n.s.) v. 4 (art. 6); ref. 4389] Ganges Delta, West Bengal, India. Syntypes: (1 figured and 1 seen by Thompson). Also spelled macclellandi (see Paxton et al. 1989:306 [ref. 12442]) and often misspelled (see Bailly & Hureau 1995 [ref. 22102]). Thompson made the description from one specimen, which would be the holotype, unless the second specimen was the subject of the illustration; he did not have available Cantor's manuscript that apparently was based on two specimens.
