Syntypes: (9) BMNH 1863.2.3.8-12 (5) Rio Rimac, ?1864.1.26.349-350 (2) Panama or Guatemala, ?1865.4.29.43-44 (2) Lake Amatilán. Loality as Panama or Guatemala ('Pacific coast of Guatemala' according to Günther 1864:324 [ref. 1974], but 'Pacific coast of Panama' according to jar label and register entry). The Peru syntypes were reidentified as Bryconamericus peruanus (Müller & Troschel 1845) (J. Maclaine, personal communication, Aug. 2009). Lectotype designation is desirable. •Synonym of Astyanax fasciatus (Cuvier 1819) -- (Buckup in Reis et al. 2003:109 [ref. 27061] with question, Mirande & Koerber 2015:2 [ref. 33698] with question). •Synonym of Astyanax aeneus (Günther 1860) -- (Schmitter-Soto 2017:1352 [ref. 35414]). Current status: Synonym of Astyanax aeneus (Günther 1860). Characidae: Stethaprioninae. Habitat: freshwater.

Spelled peruanus in text and peruvianus on plate; Günther 1864:327 [ref. 1974] used peruvianus although he may not have been aware of the spelling peruvianus; first reviser not located. •Valid as Bryconamericus peruanus (Müller & Troschel 1845) -- (Ovchynnyk 1967:28 [ref. 37559], Ortega & Vari 1986:7 [ref. 9708], Castro et al. 1998:79 [ref. 24271], Román-Valencia 2002:184 [ref. 26370], Román-Valencia 2003:21, 35 [ref. 26840], Román-Valencia 2003:28 [ref. 27037], Silva in Reis et al. 2003:118 [ref. 27061], Román-Valencia 2005:62 [ref. 28949], Román-Valencia et al. 2008:1750 [ref. 30068], Román-Valencia et al. 2009:2 [ref. 30393], Román-Valencia et al. 2011:844 [ref. 31565], Román-Valencia et al. 2014:110 [ref. 33608]). •Valid as Eretmobrycon peruanus (Müller & Troschel 1845) -- (Thomaz et al. 2015:Add. Current status: Valid as Eretmobrycon peruanus (Müller & Troschel 1845). Characidae: Stevardiinae. Distribution: South America: Pacific slope rivers (Peru). Habitat: freshwater.

Lectotype: FMNH 59523. Paralectotypes: FMNH 6267 (2). Type catalog: Ibarra & Stewart 1987:18 [ref. 12367]. Lectotype selected by Grey 1947:127 [ref. 12302]. •Synonym of Bryconamericus scleroparius (Regan 1908) -- (Román-Valencia 2002:184 [ref. 26370], Silva in Reis et al. 2003:118 [ref. 27061]). •Synonym of Eretmobrycon scleroparius (Regan 1908) -- (Malabarba 2024:156 [ref. 40817]). Current status: Synonym of Eretmobrycon scleroparius (Regan 1908). Characidae: Stevardiinae. Habitat: freshwater.
