Type catalog: Bauchot 1967:60 [ref. 20734]. Based on a Tilesius drawing (Tilesius 1811:Pl. 8 (fig. 2) [ref. 4408]); therefore, Gunnellus apos is an unneeded new name for and objective synonym of Ophidium ocellatum Tilesius 1811. Centronotus apus Günther 1861:288 [ref. 1964] is an unjustified emendation. •Synonym of Opisthocentrus ocellatus (Tilesius 1811) -- (Shiogaki 1984:220 [ref. 5309], Mecklenburg & Sheiko 2004:8 [ref. 27604], Parin et al. 2014:446 [ref. 33547], Dyldin & Orlov 2017:75 [ref. 35138]). Current status: Synonym of Opisthocentrus ocellatus (Tilesius 1811). Opisthocentridae. Habitat: marine.
